Aviation kerosene


Aviation kerosene, or jet kerosene, serves not only as fuel for aircraft; it is also a cooling agent and lubricant for fuel system parts. Therefore, it must have excellent anti-wear properties (reducing the wear and tear of friction elements in the presence of the fuel), and good low-temperature properties. The fuel must have high thermo-oxidizing stability and high specific calorific value.

Main performance characteristics (kerosene TS-1 for aircraft):;

  • good vaporability to ensure complete combustion;
  • high completeness and heat of combustion to determine the flight range;
  • good pumpability and low temperature properties to feed into the combustion chamber; low tendency to deposit formation;
  • good compatibility with materials and anti-wear and antistatic properties.
TS-1 aviation kerosene is obtained by direct distillation of sulfurous oils (desired fraction – 150-250°C). When the oil contains large amounts of sulfur and mercaptans, additional hydrotreating or demercaptanization is performed, followed by mixing the substance with a straight-run fraction. The content of hydrotreated components is limited to 70% to prevent lowering the antiwear properties of the fuel.
